Passed away peacefully on October 3, 2014 at North Bay Regional Health Centre at the age of 88 years. Loving husband of Elizabeth ‘Betty’ (nee Dimmell). Cherished father of Thomas (Phyllis Lodge) of Oshawa, Andrew (Lynn Buckham) of Sudbury and Jennifer Brown (Phil Brown) of Astorville. Jack will be deeply missed by his 3 grandsons; David Brown and Graeme and Findley Stevens. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews. Born in Englehart, Ontario on May 13, 1926 to parents Reginald and Alma Stevens (nee Kerr). Predeceased by siblings Eric (Kay), Ronald and Glenn (Audrey). In 1943 Jack joined the Royal Canadian Navy and was on convoy escort in the Battle of the North Atlantic. In 1951 Jack married Betty and lived in Temagami where he worked for Milne Lumber for 42 years as the office manager. During these years he was very engaged in the community as a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Lions Club, Minor Hockey Association and the Temagami United Church. In 1989 Jack and Betty moved to North Bay where he enjoyed his retirement years that included golf, bridge and the loving companionship of family and friends. Jack was proud of his Temagami roots and had a lifelong connection to Lake Temagami where he spent many happy days at the cottage with his extended family and friends. Jack was very active in a variety of sports including hockey, curling, canoeing and downhill and cross-country skiing. Visitation will be held at the McGuinty Funeral Home (591 Cassells St. North Bay) on Wednesday from 10am-11am with a Memorial Service following at 11am in the McGuinty Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be gratefully appreciated by his family.
