Fire at Highway 11 North motel Update

City fire crews from Station #2 were called out to a structure fire at 4319 Hwy 11 N at 10:26am Monday morning.

City fire crews from Station #2 were called out to a structure fire at 4319 Hwy 11 N at 10:26am Monday morning.

Deputy Fire Chief Brian Hunt says firefighters arrived to smoke visible at the side and rear of the building and moved quickly to extinguish it.

“Some passerby had seen smoke coming from the roof,” he tells BayToday.

“Our crews responded and on arrival they did have smoke visible and the fire seemed to be at the rear of the building and they’ve got it under control right now.”

“We’ve had two crews in there working pretty steady to bring it in control and right now they are just into overhaul process.”

Hunt says no one was injured and the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time so Chief Fire Inspector Randy Vezina was called to the scene to conduct an investigation.

“We did what is called an offensive attack the guys went in the main entry, two crews, and they got on it very rapidly,” states Hunt.

“Yes there were two occupants in the building at the time they self-evacuated because they could hear some crackling in the walls.”

He also notes that it is far too early to put a dollar figure on damage but says it is substantial.
