The city's road construction continues. Here's an update on the status of various projects and what city crews an contractors have been up to.

John St. Bridge

  • The East abutment wall was poured last Wednesday, but more rain and flooding was experienced last Thursday, slowing further progress
  • This week Contractor will control the water and clean out the silt in the bike path forms
  • Pour concrete for the entire bike path footing
  • Remove the forms from the East abutment wall

Ferguson St. Phase 2

  • Contractor will continue to install sewer and water in the intersection of Worthington.
  • Curb and sidewalk from 5th Ave to 2nd Ave will be started on Wednesday

Ferguson St. Phase 3

  • From Mon – Wed contractor will install the watermain around the Storm manhole that is being installed at Chippewa St – Chippewa will hopefully be opened back up to traffic on Wednesday.
  • From Wed – Fri contractor will start to install watermain and storm sewer from Chippewa towards Duke St.

Pinewood Park Drive

  • Progress  additional dewatering well points are being installed on the east side of the trench (next to Pinewood Park Drive)
  • Contractor is currently focusing on restoring the ramp area while the well points are installed.

Cedar Heights Watermain (College Drive)

  • The building and grading of the road and the pathway continues up to the halfway point going up the hill (booster pumping station)
  • Commissioning of the new watermain should be completed up to the existing watermain (approximately 150 m South of the South Entrance to Canadore College/Nipissing University)
  • Rock removal will continue for the watermain and sanitary sewer from approximately 100 m North of the South  school entrance/Monastery Rd intersection towards  the North Entrance to the school.
  • Contractor plans to start grading and preparing for the curbs and gutters form the South project limit to the halfway point up the hill (Hospital Entrance to the new booster pumping station).
  • Contractor plans to start the installation of the Sanitary Sewer and Watermain from the connection to the existing and working Northerly up towards the South Entrance to Canadore College/Nipissing University .

Cedar Heights Booster Pumping Station

  • Contractor will continue backfilling back up to the underside of the floor slab
  • The backfilling will start on outside perimeter of the building and the rigid insulation for frost protection will be installed and inspected
  • Plumbing scheduled to be installed under the floor slab and inspected

Resurfacing

  • Contractor completed first lift of asphalt on McNamara last week
  • Final works to finish McNamara will commence during the second week of September
  • Some line painting work will be completed this week

Sewer & Water

  • Work with the capital work on Eva St – it is anticipated that the water and sewer installations on the first block between O’Brien and Kehoe St. will be completed by weeks end. The project is on schedule.
  • Directional flushing is taking place in Ferris along Premier Rd. and sections of Lakeshore Dr.
  • Crews are completing water leak repairs and sanitary sewer repairs in various locations around the city.

Roads & Traffic

  • Regular sign maintenance & annual retro reflectivity survey
  • Regular traffic signal maintenance, replace pole base at the corner of Algonquin and Main, & install new detection cameras and pedestrian buttons at Algonquin and Jane/ Front
  • Durable marking sub-contractor should complete work (weather depending)
  • Brushing
  • Washout repair on Lee’s Road, ditching on Lee Ave from George to McDonald, & base repair on Widdifield Station Rd
  • Concrete crew will be working on Donald and Sage and Main and Algonquin
  • General Maintenance (pot holes etc.)
  • Sweeping contractor will be continuing sweeping maintenance
