A BayToday reader contacted us warning of a scam currently active in the area.
It's called the Readers Digest telephone scam.
The readers' mother received a call August 19th stating it was from Readers Digest.
The number appeared as a 18765741073.
The caller stated she had won $750,000 and a new car. Most of the taxes on the money were covered however she would have to pay the 1%.
The caller then stated they would pick her up in a van to go to the bank to cover the 1%. Then went on to ask her if she had a bank account and did she live alone.
The victim then said "this is a scam" and the caller hung up.
That's exactly what victims should do, say police.
