A Sturgeon Falls man that used a tree branch to assault a woman yesterday is facing several charges today.

The domestic dispute occurred while he and his female partner were visiting North Bay.

Police say that a concerned citizen called police 11:45 a.m., to report a heated argument between a man and a woman which was heard coming from  the bush near the tracks off Main Street West.

That verbal argument between the couple apparently turned violent when the man assaulted her using a tree branch, then threatened her and stopped her from leaving the area.

Following an investigation, North Bay Police arrested and charged a 31-year old Sturgeon Falls man with:

One count of forcible confinement;
Two counts of assault;
One count of assault with a weapon;
One count of uttering threats; and
Two count of breach of probation.
The man was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Police say that in the interest of protecting the identity of the victim, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the assault  they will not be releasing the name of the accused.
