North Bay teen dies in B.C. ATV accident

BayToday.ca has learned that a North Bay teenage girl has perished in an ATV accident in Northern B.C. on Tuesday night.

BayToday.ca has learned that a North Bay teenage girl has perished in an ATV accident in Northern B.C. on Tuesday night.

The Hudson’s Hope RCMP answered a call Tuesday night after reports of an All Terrain Vehicle Collision east of the small community of Hudson’s Hope which is located roughly 400 kilometres North of Prince George in Northeastern B.C.

Police say the young female occupant on the ATV, Brienne Longpre of North Bay, succumbed to her injuries before rescuers could take her to the nearest hospital.

RCMP believe that the ATV veered off the right side of a gravel road, flipping onto the side and ejecting Longpre.

The Hudson’s Hope homepage promotes the B.C. community located in the Rocky Mountains to be a hot spot for ATV riding in the region. However, 250 News in Prince George states that this is the seventh ATV related death this summer in the RCMP's North District of B.C.

The Ecole Secondaire Algonquin student was an avid softball player and was part of the North Bay Figure Skating Club.  The news of the tragedy was confirmed on the North Bay Figure Skating Club's FaceBook page late Wednesday evening.

"A heavy heart today. Hold the ones you love tightly cause you never know what tomorrow will bring, rest peacefully Brienne,” said North Bay Figure Skating Club member Diane Brown-DeMarco on Facebook Wednesday night.

“Your skating friends will miss you. Deepest sympathy to the Longpre family.”

Dozens of sympathy messages could be found on social media Wednesday night as news of the B.C. tragedy hit home in North Bay.

“Brienne Longpre, words can't explain how much of an amazing person you were, and how you could brighten anybody's day due to your always positive attitude,” a friend stated on Facebook.

“She was the type of person that gave always 100%, she was super motivated and always had a smile on her face,” said a former softball teammate.

“She was an amazing person inside and out and I'm going to miss seeing her smile around the field.”
