Feds kick in funding for volleyball tourney

The federal government is helping fund the upcoming NORCECA volleyball tournament as well as fund the construction of a permanent beach volleyball facility.

“This is the second time North Bay will host this competition,” said Aspin. “The event provides a considerable boost for our local tourism sector and I am very pleased the federal government is support local clubs and the Volleyball Canada to host it here again.

FedNor's $50,000 is enabling the Vision Volleyball Club to establish the Canor Molson Sand Centre, a permanent beach volleyball facility capable of hosting premier beach volleyball competitions. This initiative is expected to help the organization to attract provincial, national and international beach volleyball tournaments.

An additional $40,000 to Volleyball Canada through the Ministry of Sport’s Hosting Program is supporting the 2015 North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) Beach Volleyball Tour competitions in North Bay.

“We are thrilled to partner with FedNor to establish the Canor Molson Sand Centre,” said Amedeo Bernardi, President of Vision Volleyball Club. “Today’s announcement is helping us bring elite beach volleyball competitions to North Bay and we are excited about raising our international profile, while promoting sports tourism in the region.”

The competition this year will take place from August 5 to 10.

NORCECA is an incorporated, non-profit organization responsible for all volleyball activities that take place in its zone. It stages Olympic and World Championship zone qualification tournaments, as well as continental championships for both men and women in indoor and beach volleyball.
