A news release says the upgrade will allow the city to attract international sports tournaments and  will be "world class".

The province's Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), will kick in $100,000. And 3,000 tonnes of sand from the beach volleyball facility at the recently concluded TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games, has already been announced.

The Vision Volleyball Club is constructing the three-season volleyball venue on North Bay's waterfront.

The project includes five courts, bleachers, lighting and change rooms.

The NOHFC is also providing $15,000 to the club to host the North America, Central America and Caribbean (NORCECA) International Beach Volleyball tournament from August 7 to 9, with many of the international Pan Am Games athletes attending.

Amedeo Bernardi, President, Vision Volleyball Club says in the release, "We are very pleased that the province could support the construction of Canada's only permanent international beach volleyball courts. This project will help attract the best international teams and help in the development of our local coaches and athletes. We invite everyone to NORCECA 2015.”

“By investing in this outdoor volleyball facility in North Bay, our government is creating new economic and tourism opportunities and putting northeastern Ontario on the map as a location for world class competitions. I am very pleased that the NOHFC could partner with the Vision Volleyball Club to build this venue to host major international tournaments and events," said Michael Gravelle, Minister of Northern Development and Mines and Chair of the NOHFC.
