Two dead in 69 crash

A collision Saturday on Highway 69 has killed two people. OPP say at approximately 2 p.m. they were called to a multiple vehicle collision three kilometres south of Pointe au Baril on Highway 69 in The Township of the Archipelago.

OPP say at approximately 2 p.m. they were called to a multiple vehicle collision three kilometres south of Pointe au Baril on Highway 69 in The Township of the Archipelago.

A northbound pick-up truck tried unsuccessfully to pass two trucks pulling campers and was forced to swerve to miss a southbound Sport Utility Vehicle. The SUV swerved into the northbound lane and hit the northbound truck head on.

The OPP helicopter was not used, however a drone was used to help with the investigation at the scene.

The driver of the SUV, Andre Veilleux, 72 years of age and the passenger Doreen Veilleux, 71 years of age from Parry Sound were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two occupants from the pick-up truck and two occupants from the northbound truck pulling the camper trailer were taken to hospital for treatment and were released.
