Ontario Forensic Pathology Services has notified the North Bay Police Service that the remains found in the marsh located off Highway 11 North in June is that of Timmins resident Bernard Sackaney.

Sackaney, who was born in 1963, was first reported missing back in July of 2011.  The Timmins Police have notified the family of the deceased.

The cause of death is undetermined. There is no evidence to suspect foul play.

University students first found the remains on June 6th while doing some research in the marsh located less than 100 meters from the shoulder of Highway 11 between Callander and North Bay.

The students discovered a shoe, which they believed contained human remains. They then contacted police to report their findings and went back to the location with police the following day (June 7th).

Service requested the assistance of the Ontario Coroner’s Office to conduct a search which was completed on June 9th.

As a result of the search, police found additional remains, believed to be human, which were sent for analysis to the Ontario Forensic Pathology Services, who confirmed they were human.
