City Councillor Mike Anthony believes our gas prices are unusually high and he wants to look into it.

At council on Monday, Anthony will be filing a motion to having local gas prices investigated by the Competition Bureau.

“We've all complained and felt the hit in the wallet,” said Anthony Friday morning.

“As a councillor I've  heard many complaints about gas prices in North Bay. More often than not, it seems we are higher than the provincial average. Plus people get really ticked-off when they drive through other cities, some as close as Sturgeon Falls, and see prices several cents lower.”

Anthony says his tipping point was a complaint he received from a very frustrated local resident who asked him if something could be done.

“I looked in to who investigates gasoline prices and discovered the Competition Bureau had done an investigation in Kingston and Brockville a couple years back. They found three companies were price fixing and fined them almost $2,000,000.

“I think the time has come to look into things here as well.”

According to Ontariogasprices.com, the lowest price of gas within the city of North Bay is 126.6 which is the going price at the Crevier on McKeown avenue and the Mr. Gas on Highway 11 North.

Ontariogasprices.com reports the national average being around 118.05 and the Ontario average at 117.61.
