A Safe Canada Day in North Bay

This year’s Canada Day Long Weekend has concluded and we were fatality free.

This year’s Canada Day Long Weekend has concluded and we were fatality free.  While the majority of drivers are driving accordingly, there continues to be drivers who are not getting the message about Drinking and Driving, Speeding and Distracted Driving.

Members of the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) executed a Traffic Safety Plan this weekend with the sole purpose of keeping our area highways and waterways safer place; by increased visibility and directed enforcement.

Area Highways and Roadways

Detachment members conducted focused patrols to highway traffic safety this long weekend resulting in 110 speeding charges, 31 other Highway Traffic Act offences including Distracted Driving, one Impaired driver and one other driver receiving a 3 day licence suspension for registering a warn on the Roadside Screening Device.

Waterways

The North Bay Detachment Marine Unit was on our area water ways and trails, resulting in one charge of no personal floating device and two charges of open liquor.

Area Collisions

In our entire Detachment area there were 12 reportable collisions during the Long Weekend with three resulting in injuries and seven involving wildlife.

North Bay OPP would like to thank the majority of drivers who drove responsibly.
