Interested in finding out how to spot a fake artifact?

The opportunity is there as Discovery North Bay Museum, in partnership with the Royal Ontario Museum are allowing visitors to test their skills in Fakes & Forgeries: Yesterday and Today.

The ROM-produced exhibit opened at Discovery North Bay Museum on Canada Day.

The interactive exhibition presents 115 real and fake objects that run the gamut from historical specimens and cultural artifacts, to household items and designer name brands.

“The subject of forgeries is part of our everyday lives,” said Discovery North Bay Museum Director/Curator Naomi Rupke.

“This exhibit looks at both exotic ancient forgeries and modern counterfeits.  It offers North Bay visitors the unique opportunity to learn about the many diverse topics presented which include Egyptian Antiquities, Women from Ancient Greece, Chinese Mysteries, and Fossils.”

Visitors of all ages are invited to guess which objects are real and which are clever fakes.

Visitors will learn how to tell authentic pieces from sly forgeries and discover the fascinating lengths forgers will take to trick the unwary.

The exhibition will be in North Bay until late November of 2015.
