Leanne Comerford was shocked when she looked out the front window of her home on LIttle Down Lane off Airport Road this afternoon.

The shock came when she realized a bear was on her driveway.

"At first I thought it was a dog sniffing around my driveway, I just caught a glimpse of something black out of the corner of my eye. Then I went to the window to look and he was standing right in front of my house. I was inside, so I wasn't scared but it shocked me," said Comerford in an email to BayToday.ca.

Comerford was able to take this photo with her android phone before the unwelcomed visitor left her residence.

"He wandered up the road a bit, crossed the street and went up a driveway and into someone's back yard."

Comerford then called the MNR and eventually the CFB North Bay Military Police escorted the nuisance bear back into the bush using sirens.

She adds the bear has been sighted around the neighbourhood for the past three days.

In late June, North Bay Police stated they had received six calls relating to bear sightings in and around the city this spring.

Polics say Call 911 only if a bear poses an immediate threat to personal safety. Emergencies might be when a bear:

enters a school yard when school is in session;
• enters or tries to enter a residence;
• wanders into a public gathering;
• kills livestock/pets and lingers at the site; or
• stalks people and lingers at the site.

For non-emergencies, call the Bear Wise reporting line at 1-866-514-2327. This phone number should be used when a bear is:

• roaming around, checking garbage cans,
• breaking into a shed where garbage or food is stored,
• in a tree,
• pulling down a bird feeder or knocking over a barbecue, or
• moving through a backyard or field but is not lingering.
