Ecology Centre gets big FedNor cheque

Nipissing MP Jay Aspin handed out $31,500 in funding to the Canadian Ecology Centre in Mattawa to assist with youth employment and training.

Nipissing MP Jay Aspin handed out $31,500 in funding to the Canadian Ecology Centre in Mattawa to assist with youth employment and training.

The FedNor funding will enable the Canadian Ecology Centre (CEC) to develop, market, promote and deliver new science and technology programs, including a new astronomy program for students, corporate clients and the general public.

Specifically, the funding will be used to hire a youth intern for a one-year period.

“It is a significant opportunity for our recent post-secondary graduates to have the opportunity to develop their skills right here in Northern Ontario,” said MP Jay Aspin in a release Sunday.

“Out-migration remains a serious concern and I am very pleased our federal government is continuing to assist me in this out-migration challenge.”

Since its inception, FedNor has helped provide more than 1535 young post-secondary graduates with their crucial first job, and assisted many Northern Ontario businesses with this assistance.

“This important federal funding will enable us to hire a qualified and talented young graduate, which is key to ensuring the Canadian Ecology Centre and our region can continue to grow and prosper,” said Bill Steer, General Manager of the Canadian Ecology Centre.
