Two hikers from North Bay are missing in the Cathedral Lakes area west of Keremeos, B.C.
Rick Moynan and his girlfriend Lynne Carmody left for a hike at about 10 a.m. PT Monday and never returned.
They left from an upper camp, about 6800 ft above sea level.
A webpage on the area says it contains very rugged and steep terrain, "an adventure that requires fortitude as it's a long hike through sagebrush country concluding with a steep climb. Ensure you have plenty of water."
The pair told employees of the lodge where they were staying that they would be back by dinner, but did not arrive back by that time.
Keremeos RCMP were called at about 8:30 p.m. P.T. after a brief search turned up nothing.
RCMP activated Search and Rescue crews immediately and began searching Tuesday by foot, vehicle and air.
Twenty searchers from four different teams are currently involved along with two helicopters, a park ranger and a police dog.
A spokesman says searchers are looking in lesser-used trails as 30 other hikers were in the area at the time, and none saw the missing couple.
