It was all smiles, hugs and birthday cakes at The Empire Thursday afternoon.

Empire resident Margaret Reynolds turned 100 surrounded by family, friends, and members of community.

Mayor Al McDonald proclaimed it Margaret Reynolds Day. Well over 100 people crowded the Regency room, spilling out into the Grand Lobby.

Since one of Margaret’s secrets to staying young is shopping, Northgate Shopping Centre sent over a $100 gift card for her to enjoy.

General Manager Ariane Savard said that Margaret is wonderful woman to learn from, and went on to thank all her residents and staff for pulling together to make the surprise party special.

Margaret Reynolds was born in downtown North Bay and went to kindergarten in the basement of Trinity United.

She shared many wonderful years with her husband Jim Reynolds, and she worked in factories during war years. For a time the couple resided in Hamilton, and then spent many years in Ottawa.

She moved back to the North Bay area in the early 1990's and enjoyed her bowling league well into her 90's.

She moved into North Bay’s Landmark Retirement Residence six years ago.
