A large Trillium Foundation grant was officially awarded today to the White Water Gallery.

The $120,000 grant is being used to help a “Northern Conference for the Arts” which is taking place this week at the Capitol Centre.

Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli was on hand for the Friday morning announcement.

“My congratulations go out to the White Water Gallery, Clayton Windatt and all of the volunteers and artists who have joined together to make this event possible,” Fedeli said about the 24-month grant.

“It’s wonderful to see the initiative and leadership shown by members of our local arts community, which is now helping to foster a spirit of advancement and sharing throughout the North.”

As part of the funding, a local project coordinator was also to be hired to undertake community-based consultations to shape the content of the conference.

The conference started on May 27th and concludes on May 30th.   It includes presentations on a wide range of organizational, cultural and artistic topics.

Whitewater Gallery Director Clayton Windatt says the event is all about connecting the Arts community.

“The conference is a collaborative event which was us establishing the way that partnerships can happen because there were about 30 organizations involved in the creation of this event,” said Windatt.
