Members of Chippewa’s Raideraid philanthropist club, recently presented a cheque for the sum of $5,000 to the Free the Children Foundation.

"Funds raised go towards empowering women in the developing world by providing training, education and supplies," said grade 7 teacher Stéphanie Underwood. "Students worked very hard throughout the year by organizing fundraising events such as bottle drives, bake sales, garage sales, and more."

About 30 events were planned  for the student body and public.

There are 30 students in the club, which also did necklace/bracelet sales, busking, and baby-sitting to raise the money.

"Chippewa is a We School in Action working with Free the Children to build leadership traits in our students while making a positive difference in local and global initiatives," said teacher advisor Jessica Bradford. "This was our 'global goal' to accomplish this year.

"We complete at least 10 initiatives each school year at both the local and global level and we support new causes each year," she added.

Next year the students want to raise $10,000 to build a school.
