Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli is asking the Chief Coroner of Ontario to reconsider his request from three years ago to hold a
Coroner’s Inquest into the deaths of nine young Ontarians in late 2011 and early 2012.

Fedeli says new information has come to light with regards to the adequacy of provincial winter highway clearing efforts during this time period in the Auditor General’s Special Report on Winter Highway Maintenance.

A copy of the report can be found here: http://www.auditor.on.ca/en/reports_en/winterhighway_en.pdf

Between December 27, 2011 and January 3, 2012, three separate highway crashes on Northern Ontario highways resulted in the deaths of nine young people, all under the age of 20.

"The Premier has so far refused my request to ask you to call an inquest, so I’m formally asking you to review the deaths of eight- year-old Kaitlyn McPherson of Orangeville, 13-year old Andrew Beland of Brampton, 19-year-old Cole Howard and 18 year olds Torry McIntyre-Courville and Jessica Chamberland of Sudbury, 17-year-old Alyssa McKeown of Barrie, 19-year-olds Hillary Afelski and Zabrine Rekowski and 18-year-old Keegan Melville of Renfrew to consider whether an inquest is warranted."
