The 'Flame' arrives Wednesday

The Pan Am Games Torch Relay will visit our area including Sturgeon Falls, North Bay, Powassan, South River, Sundridge and Huntsville next Wednesday, June 3.

The Pan Am flame will visit the Armed Forces Day celebration at North Bay’s waterfront, stopping in Powassan, South River and Sundridge before making its way to Huntsville, where the flame will travel by water and steam train. 

Here are the main highlights:

  • North Bay Waterfront – (Memorial Drive, North Bay) Community torchbearer Sarah Gouthro will arrive with Pan Am flame and light the community cauldron at 12:30 p.m.Torchbearer Shelby de Bernardi will depart with the flame
  • Jordan Mino and the students from ESCA.  Jordan is a graduate from École Secondaire Catholique Algonquin, a member of our local and provincial sledge hockey teams and an avid wheelchair sport athlete.  Jordan will be a torch bearer for Wednesdays torch relay.  His part of the route will be on Algonquin Avenue in front of the school at approximately 12:15-12:25pm.

  • Muskoka River – 5:55 p.m. 7 John Street, Huntsville. Community torchbearer Jane Wolfe will swim with the Pan Am flame. Canada Summit Centre 6:40 p.m. 20 Park Drive, Huntsville. The flame will travel by steam train with torchbearer Brandon Just. Dara Howell, Olympic medallist, freestyle skiing, will also carry the flame at this location. Community torchbearer Pierre Mikhail will be the final torchbearer who will light the community cauldron at 7 p.m. Gypsy Kumbia will perform at the celebration.


The Pan Am Games Torch Relay is a 41-day journey that will share the Pan Am spirit in more than 130 communities.

There will be more than 3,000 torchbearers and 180 community celebrations taking place.

The torch relay starts Saturday and concludes July 10, with the dramatic lighting of the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony in downtown Toronto.
