In a few years you might be able to bicycle from Sudbury to Deep River in the Ottawa Valley on a Discovery Routes trail.

A study has been launched  to evaluate the feasibility of implementing the cycling route.

Executive Director of Discovery Routes Jennifer McCourt told BayToday she hopes the study will be complete by the beginning of July.

The route will include a segment of the proposed Trans Canada Trail between Sudbury and Callander and be primarily on road.

"The proposed trail will support local tourism, improve recreational opportunities and provide greater community connectivity along the corridor.  The purpose of the Study is to evaluate these benefits, confirm the route alignment and outline the level of funding and partners necessary to move forward with implementation," said McCourt.

The route will run about 400km, and McCourt hopes riders can enjoy the route by 2017, but that will be determined by the study.

The Voyageur Cycling Route Working Group in association with the Discovery Routes Trails Organization will be hosting four community and stakeholder consultation events during the first week of June in communities along the entire corridor.

McCourt encourages community members to attend a session or reach out to the study contact below.
