The Gateway Hub, was nominated for the Local Municipal Championship Award through OMSSA’s Awards and Recognition Program. The nomination was made by Joseph Bradbury, Chief Administration Officer at the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board.

“It is my pleasure to accept this honor that recognizes the Nipissing Gateway Hub and all of its accomplishments,” says Brent Kalinowski, Project Manager of the Gateway Hub.  “Every member of this group contributes to this integrated approach that has proven to make a significant positive impact on the life of individuals, on the wellbeing of families and on the safety of our neighbourhoods.”

The Gateway Hub is made up of community partners from different service providers within mental health, addictions, education, local and provincial police, crisis and social services, probation and justice workers, children’s services, District Health Unit and Regional Hospital along with First Nations.

These local resources are mobilized to identify high risk individuals or families and to work with them to reach healthier and safer outcomes.

“All the members of the Hub have clearly demonstrated how effectively partnerships within the community can use their expertise and resources to work towards a common goal through this innovative program,” says DNSSAB Chair, Mark King.

The Ontario Municipal Social Services Association Award recognizes the great work done in advancing excellence in human services integration and service system management by Consolidated Municipal Service Managers (CMSM) and District Social Services Administration Board (DSSAB) staff across the province.

The Gateway Hub has developed a community solution to address local issues while creating long term community partnerships and pioneering approaches to service delivery.

In partnership with the Ministry of Community and Social Services, the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services along with Justice Services, it is taking part in a pilot project with a Computer Records Management System (CRM) using an integrated Risk-Driven tracking database. Reports provided from this database allow the HUB, the community and the province to identify the current needs of families and individuals within our area and measure the reduction of service needs, i.e., socially-based police calls.
