North Bay torchbearer announced

Sarah Gouthro is the North Bay community torchbearer for the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games Torch Relay. No picture was provided with the news release making the announcement today..

The relay will visit North Bay on June 3, and will feature Sarah Gouthro, daughter of Sergeant Christopher Gouthro, a member of the Algonquin Regiment, as the community torchbearer during the Armed Forces Day celebrations says a news release from the games committee.

She is very actively involved with sports and currently plays on the volleyball, basketball and track team for Chippewa Secondary School.

In addition, she plays club volleyball for the North Bay Youth Volleyball Club Lakers, travelling across Ontario to play against top club teams from various cities.

Gouthro is actively involved in charity work.

Her accomplishments include creating her own Relay For Life team with 12 other youth, volunteering with the Santa Fund for the past three years and spearheading fundraising initiatives in the community.

“Sarah Gouthro will proudly carry the Pan Am flame as North Bay’s community torchbearer,” said Mayor Al McDonald. 

During the 41-day torch relay, each of the 3,000 torchbearers will complete, on average, a 200-metre relay segment.
