Former Junior Hockey owner faces fraud charges

Members of the Mattawa Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and North Bay Ontario Provincial Police Crime Unit have just completed an extensive investigation of allegations of fraud against the previous owner of the Mattawa Junior A Blackhawks hockey team

Members of the Mattawa Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and North Bay Ontario Provincial Police Crime Unit have just completed an extensive investigation of allegations of fraud against the previous owner of the Mattawa Junior A Blackhawks hockey team.

In October, 2014, Mattawa OPP received numerous complaints of fraud involving activities relating to the Mattawa Junior A Blackhawks hockey club.

David BEAUCHAMP, age 27, of North Bay, was arrested and charged with False Pretences (four counts), Fraud over $5,000 (two counts) and Fraud Under $5000, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

Beauchamp was released on a Promise to Appear and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Mattawa on May 6, 2015, to answer to his charges.

Beauchamp, the owner and General Manager of team at that time,  moved the NOJHL's North Bay Jr. Trappers franchise to Mattawa in the summer of 2014.

An ownership group out of Toronto took over the operations of the franchise from Beauchamp in October and ran the team for the rest of the 2014-15 season.
