It may still look like winter but Craig Moody is thinking about golf in the North Bay area.

The Superintendent at Osprey Links Golf Course is already working on his greens.   Riding a large tractor Moody has been removing snow from some of the greens.

“We’ve cleared the snow off just to get to the ice that’s on some of the historically problematic greens,” said Moody.

“Once the snow is cleared we spread the black sand, it’s actually a dyed sand. It’s dyed black so it absorbs the heat from the sun and will burrow its way through the ice and allow some of the air to escape.”

It’s hard to believe that 2 years ago around this time, the golf season was opening in March.

After a pair of very long winters it is hard to be too optimistic, but Osprey Links General Manager Jeff Rogerson feels good about this spring.

“We are standing out here today, it’s below zero in the temperature but you can feel the sun, and the sun is very strong and its getting stronger every day,” said Rogerson from the 16th green.

“We have seen a totally different winter then we and everyone had to suffer through last year.”
