Local mining plant lays off 22 employees

BayToday has learned that the local Boart Longyear plant laid off 22 employees yesterday. A source says it's being called temporary, hoping work will pick up in a another month or two.

BayToday has learned that the local Boart Longyear plant laid off 22 employees yesterday.

A source says it's being called temporary, hoping work will pick up in a another month or two.

Inquiries to the local operation were directed to the company's headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah, however a call to request further information this morning was not returned.

Boart Longyear conducts contract drilling services in more than 40 countries, and provides mining products to customers in over 100 countries.

It has 8,000 employees worldwide.
