Canadore College is seeing one of the strongest first-year enrolment intakes among the publicly-funded colleges across province.

According to a news release,Ontario’s colleges are collectively showing a 0.7 per cent downturn in first-year full-time enrolment, while Canadore is marking a 3.6 per cent increase, second only to George Brown College in Toronto.

“Our team is thrilled about this news,” said Shawn Chorney, Vice-President of Enrolment Management and Student Services. “It truly is a team celebration. Everyone at the college pitches into our recruiting and retention efforts.”

Chorney credits the growth, says the release, to the deliberate attention Canadore has paid to its program mix and enrolment management initiatives over the last five years.

“We have had our share of growing pains,” said Chorney. “Sometimes we have to make unpopular decisions, and think out of the box, but the college continues to evolve based on the needs of the marketplace and our students. Our programs are full of applied and experiential learning opportunities so that our graduates are ready for the workforce in the fields that jobs are available.”

Sport and Recreation programs achieved record enrolment in 2014.

The School of Trades and Technology has grown nearly 15 per cent annually over the last three years and health, human care and wellness programs have also been gaining momentum.
