Police are warning about another one of those scams that promise you big money---from a dead relative you didn't know you had!

West Parry Sound OPP were notified yesterday about a letter from Spain and 4.2 million dollars to be claimed.

The letter indicated that a possible relative had died in a disaster and his sum of money would be liquidated in accordance with the vault/security laws of Spain.

The author of the letter claimed to be his attorney-at-law and would work out all the details to obtain the money.

The money once claimed would be divided into equal parts and there would be no risk involved. The recipient was directed to call or send an email for further instructions.

In this scam, the potential victim sensed that something was up and contacted the OPP instead of the author of the letter.

Police believe that the victim would be directed to provide personal information or possibly to send money to secure the inheritance.

The methods being employed by fraudsters are as diverse as the victims they target.

Guard against becoming a victim before providing money or credit card information.

For more information about the many types of fraud and what to watch for, you can contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre 1-888-495-8501 or on the web at www.antifraudcentre.ca as well as the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
