A sharp-eyed North Bay Police Street Crime unit officer saw a suspected drug transaction take place yesterday afternoon between a male motorist and a woman who had entered the passenger side of his vehicle, while he was inside and parked on Clarence Street.

Police arrested both at the scene.

A search revealed that the woman had ten 30-milligram Morphine pills in her possession, while the man had five 30-milligram Morphine pills and a small amount of suspected hashish.

Police seized the drugs with an estimated street value of $450, as well as $220 in Canadian currency, and charged Robert George Derry, age 61, of Callander with:

• One count of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking;
• One count of possession of property obtained by crime; and
• One count of drug possession.

Police also charged the woman, who is 34 years old and from North Bay, with one count of drug possession and one count of breach of recognizance but it is their policy to not release a name for simple possession.

Both were released from custody on conditions.

They are both scheduled to attend court for a first appearance on Tuesday March 3rd.
