A strike deadline for the CCAC (Community Care Access Centre) staff is tonight at midnight.

The hospital has been notified by the Ontario Nursing Association, which represents the 8-9 staff that work at the facility, that pickets may be set up at the two entrances to NBRHC.

The workers aren't part of hospital staff.

Hospital employees are classified as essential workers and do not have the legal right to strike under existing legislation.

CCAC nurses assist with transition of patients into community care.

Home care would not be affected since those services are contracted out by the CCAC.

Of the 3,500 CCAC nurses in the province, 300 are here in the north east

The 14 CCACs across the province served 700,000 clients last year.
