The first set of layoffs by the new owners of the Tim Hortons franchise hit North Bay, as well known and respected Northern Ontario Regional Marketing Manager John McLellan was given his notice earlier this week.

McLellan, was with Tim Hortons as Regional Marketing Manager for the North for 14 years.

Prior to that, the North Bay native had a lengthy marketing career with the North Bay Centennials of the Ontario Hockey League.

Tim Hortons, which was taken over by Burger King Worldwide Inc. last year, has been widely expected to cut office jobs which were announced on Tuesday, which included cuts at regional offices.

The company expects to keep its headquarters in Oakville but staff outside its restaurants were reportedly not protected under a promise by Burger King to keep jobs at Tim Hortons franchises across the country for the next 5 years.
