Suicide prevention & mental health forum on tap

Jay Aspin, MP for Nipissing-Timiskaming, says he will be hosting a forum to provide an opportunity for people to discuss suicide prevention and mental health issues as part of the "308 Conversations" initiative launched by the Mental Health

Jay Aspin, MP for Nipissing-Timiskaming,  says he will be hosting a forum to provide an opportunity for people  to discuss suicide prevention and mental health issues as part of the "308 Conversations" initiative launched by the Mental Health Commission of Canada.

Assisting will be the CMHA – Nipissing Regional Branch and the North Bay Regional Health Centre.

“Mental health is a very real and serious concern for our country,” said Aspin.

“Over the past year, we have seen several regretful and painful cases of youth, veterans, or others making devastating choices.”

The forum is designed to gather insight and ideas surrounding suicide prevention across Canada.

The goal is to share the best ideas and work together to create lasting solutions.

308 Conversations will provide Canadians with information on the actions and initiatives taking place in their own community.

The Forum will bring together local experts, service providers, healthcare providers, local police, teachers, social workers, service clubs, survivors, faith-based community leaders/groups, military, veterans and community leadership.

It's open to the public and will take place from 1-4 p.m. on February 12 at 100 Elements Restaurant, Canadore College.
