Aspin wants 4 laning to Temiskaming Shores

Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Jay Aspin says he wants to see Highway 11 North four-laned from North Bay to Temiskaming Shores (New Liskeard).

“The province’s decision to end the Northlander passenger service has put more vehicles on the road. The significant increase of fatal accidents between North Bay and Temiskaming Shores has been a paramount  concern for the people of my region. This mid Canada link is a vital transportation corridor for both Ontario and Canada as a whole. It’s time for solutions.”

Although highways are a provincial responsibility, Aspin wants to engage provincial and federal governments to provide a strategic investment for the region.

 But it's not just safety.

Aspin says it will help the economy of the region.

The MP points out that southern Ontario has had a solid four lane East-West highway transportation network for decades which has been a major factor in facilitating growth in business development. Highways are proven infrastructure methods which extend commerce to regions, however, the link north is only partially complete.

“This should be a major initiative for Timiskaming region,” said Aspin. “The path ahead will involve reaching out to local stakeholders to bring that momentum to produce favourable acceptance from senior levels of government. The Temiskaming Shores and Area Chamber of Commerce will assist this effort by leading the charge. I am looking forward to working with all stakeholders affected to realize this important initiative for both our region, our province and our country as it is an integral portion of the TransCanada highway network”
