UPDATE: The overpass was re-opened to traffic before 11:00 p.m. on Friday night.

Police and witnesses tell BayToday.ca that the Lakeshore By-Pass is currently close due to a multiple car accident.

The wet snow has turned to ice on many roads in the North Bay area on Halloween night.

Kelly Whittet supplied a photo of the Lakeshore Drive by-pass.  She says the roads were like a skating rink at the top of the overpass.

"Cars were swerving to avoid one another," Whittet told BayToday.ca

"It took about an hour to get everyone down safely. Firefighters had to help back us down the other side as a few of the cars in front of us were T boned and unable to move."

North Bay Police confirm the accidents but Sgt. Mike Hunter told BayToday.ca that there were several MVC's but no one was injured.

"The overpass is closed until city yards can get it salted," said Hunter.

"We are just waiting for sanders to get through."

At 10:00 p.m. police were advising motorists to use alterntive routes such as the highway or Memorial Drive.

Obviously if you are out on the roads this evening be very, very careful.
