Woman a victim of fraud

It’s a common practice---a senior citizen hires someone to do things she can no longer do herself. This time it went terribly wrong for the senior.

It’s a common practice---a senior citizen hires someone to do things she can no longer do herself.

This time it went terribly wrong for the senior.

City police say a man, who was hired by a senior to maintain her residential property, has been charged with fraud following a North Bay Police investigation into the suspected theft of her cheque book.

Sometime during the term of his seasonal contract with the victim, the man entered her North Bay home, as he routinely did, to tell her he had completed work on her property.

Police say he then stole her cheque book and cashed fraudulent cheques totalling over $15,000.

As a result of the investigation, North Bay Police charged William Lionel Joseph Brown, age 34, of North Bay, with one count of fraud over $5,000, one count of uttering forged documents, and one count of theft under $5,000.

He was released from custody with a court date scheduled for November 25th.
