Aspin was visiting the memorial where Cirillo was fatally shot Wednesday by a gunman who then raced to Parliament Hill, where he was killed in a gunfight in the halls of the Centre Block.

Several federal MPs were also on hand to pay their respects at the memorial, even taking part in an impromptu rendition of O Canada.

Aspin and the rest of the MPs were back in the House of Commons to resume the business of government today. The session started with a moment of silence and the singing of O canada.

Meanwhile, flags at City Hall in North Bay are flying at half staff this morning to honour the memory of the soldier killed yesterday by a lone gunman in Ottawa.

Police in the city are patrolling with heightened awareness at a number of buildings today.

Meanwhile, Aspin will be holding a media conference tomorrow, Friday, concerning the serious events of the past few days.
