Nicole Peltier wants to get parents and students more involved in education.
“I would advocate for more Parent-Trustee Meet ‘n’ Greets. As well as bi-annual youth roundtable discussions with our new student Trustee,” Peltier says.

“Other Trustee candidates are talking of high school closures. It’s time to ask what the students want when it comes to long-term strategic education plans.”

“As a community member, your opinions and ideas matter. Speaking out can inspire others to do the same,” says Peltier. “Together we can make a difference in planning for the future of education.”

The recent meetings have shone a bright light on the shortcomings of the Near North School Board she says.

Some of the many on-going NNDSB challenges are:

• Students preforming below the provincial average in reading, writing, and math
• Past ARC processes haven’t all been transparent or a positive transition
• Communication and accountability for negative behaviour is lacking
• Alliance Public School is over-capacity
• West Ferris, Chippewa, Widdifield, and many other schools are under-capacity
