There are many different ways people support breastfeeding moms. Every one of them is important so that children get off to a great start in life.

“During World Breastfeeding Week, we want to thank everyone who supports breastfeeding moms and creates a safe, welcoming place for them. We know that breastfeeding impacts the health of our children and
is the first and most important public health intervention for them,” said Public Health Nurse Heather Lawson.

"First, thanks go to hospital staff who are important in the first few hours after childbirth to help moms start breastfeeding. Then doctors, nurses and midwives are essential to help new moms with any medical questions and issues," says a news release.

"We also thank all the family and friends who help breastfeeding moms. They help with changing diapers, burping, getting groceries, preparing meals, and doing household chores. The day to day support helps relieve some of the demands for breastfeeding moms."

There are many volunteers in who connect with breastfeeding moms.

"They provide a listening ear, experience and support when breastfeeding moms just need to talk with someone. We are also thanking Breastfeeding Friendly public places, workplaces and the community who welcome moms to breastfeed when and where they need to. It is a mother's right to breastfeed in a public area."

Ontario Human Rights protects mothers from being disturbed, asked to "cover up" or move to another area
that is more "discreet".
