After playing a vital role in the daily operations of the W.K.P. Gallery, Alex Maeve Campbell is now leading the charge. The 34 year old is also a mixed media artist and will serve as both gallery curator and manager.

“I want to build on the gallery’s history while looking forward to the future with new and exciting ideas for fundraisers, exhibits and events,” says Campbell.

The gallery is located inside the Capitol Centre building and its manager Dee Adrian says Campbell’s energy is needed if the W.K.P. Gallery is to move forward.

“We expect great things from her. She has been an integral part of what happens here at the gallery. She works well with everyone. She has a lot of great contacts and she has a youthful enthusiasm as well as outstanding ideas.”

Campbell says one of her first priorities will be to support emerging and student artists. She also plans to set up more summer camps and is also eyeing one during the March Break.

“Because it’s a public gallery, I think it’s important to bring people in and educate them about art in our area and across the country.”

“She is very effective and a hard worker. I know that she has a vision for the gallery and that is why I wanted her to talk to the media today to give her the confidence she deserves,” adds interim gallery chair Sylvia Antinozzi. She says Campbell will also bring new energy to the position and lead the gallery well into the future.

Campbell says she is up for the challenge and also wants to build more bridges within the community and with local artists who are taking shop in the downtown core. She plans to continue making the gallery accessible to all and showcasing various forms of art.
