ONTC pensioners still forced to fight

ONTC pensioners are still fighting to clarify issues relating to their pensions and are looking for a seat on the board that oversees the pension plan as is described in the Pension Benefit Act.

ONTC pensioners are still fighting to clarify issues relating to their pensions and are looking for a seat on the board that oversees the pension plan as is described in the Pension Benefit Act.

“Pension plan governance is in the spotlight at the moment and the pressures on pension funds require keen oversight and careful management,” said Phil Koning, Chair of the Ontario Northland Pensioners Association.

Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli has waded in.

“Ontario Northland pensioners deserve some basic answers from the Wynne government regarding their pensions and benefits,” Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli said today.

Fedeli has written Finance Minister Charles Sousa and Northern Development and Mines Minister Michael Gravelle for the second time in less than a month seeking clarity on issues raised by the Ontario Northland Pensioners Association (ONPA).

“These workers dedicated their careers to serving the province through their work at Ontario Northland.  They’re simply seeking input into how their pensions and benefits are managed,” said Fedeli.

“This government owes it to them to be open and transparent, as they’ve promised to be.”

“The members of the ONPA simply wish to have a meaningful say over the administration of their pension benefits.”

Repeated requests by BayToday to interview ONTC management on the issue have been turned down.
