Mayor's race likely. Villneff steps up.

If Mayor Al McDonald decides to run again he'll have competition. A candidate for mayor in the last election in 2010, Harvey Villneff, says he's running again on a platform of financial responsibility.

If Mayor Al McDonald decides to run again he'll have competition.

A candidate for mayor  in the last election in 2010, Harvey Villneff, says he's running again on a platform of financial responsibility.

The 55 year old security advisor and consultant filed his papers this morning.

Villneff told BayToday that, "Budgets are outrageous. Where is the money going? I want to know.

"I want to know where every dime is spent."

Villneff says over the past four years, city spending has gone "wild".

"We can never find answers", he said. "I will call for an audit of a number of financial decisions."

While financial responsibility is the main plank in his platform, he says he has others that he will roll out as the campaign gets underway.

Villneff graduated from Sir Sandford Fleming College with a degree in Fire Safety, Security Management and Administration, which included courses in politics, Supervisor Training, Criminal Psychology, Sociology and Society and Environmental Factors.

"My past training will give me the advantage to work with the departments at City Hall. If we can bring in clean industry then we will be in a better position to entice new jobs, fix our roads, keep our small parklands and many other issues that need attending to.

"It's a good city and we've got to make it better," he explained.

He was also worried the present mayor would be acclaimed if he didn't step forward.

"There was no way I was going to let that happen, no way."
