On August 23, the West Nipissing Police Service received a call from a Stewart Rd. resident stating that they had purchased a cellular phone through Kijiji but never received it.

The complainant told police that they had already transferred $425 to the seller but that they had not received the phone yet. Unfortunately the complainant was advised that they shouldn’t have sent the money to an unknown person prior to receiving the item.

The public needs to understand that transactions through the internet should be done in person in order to receive the items and don’t forget… buyer beware.

On August 24, police received a 9-1-1 call from the Demers St. area regarding a male who was seen attempting to break into a residence.

Police attended and spoke with the male who told police that he was the tenant and he didn’t have a key and he was just trying to enter his house.

This male was detained in order to determine his version was accurate.

While on scene, another male showed up also identifying himself as a tenant telling the officer that the other male was in fact his roommate.

Officers entered the residence and observed suspected cocaine in plain view located on the freezer.

The second male was subsequently arrested for possession of a controlled substance and upon searching him, officers found more suspected cocaine in his pant pocket.

The 21-year-old male was later released on a promise to appear.
