A new École St-Thomas-d’Aquin will be built in East Ferris at 1245, Village Road in Astorville, near the community centre.

Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord (CSCFN) and the Municipality of East Ferris are partnering after receiving the final approval from the Ministry of Education to begin the construction.

In a news release, the board says, "Firstly, the new building will fulfill the increasing need for space. The current school, also located in Astorville, sees its student count rise from year to year and now holds over 225 students. The new Catholic French-language elementary school, built according to an innovative model, will be efficient and incorporate cutting-edge technology. The new, larger daycare located at the school will also include the babies’ age group."

The partnership between the CSCFN and the Municipality, enables students to take advantage of a wide range of services, including the municipal library, the ice rink, the gym and all the services which will now be in close proximity to the school.

Monique Ménard, Director of Education of the CSCFN, said "It is with much enthusiasm that we begin this new partnership with the Municipality of East Ferris. We are proud to build our new school at such an ideal location. The advantages are numerous, and for many."

Mayor Bill Vrebosch is pleased that the Hamlet of Astorville was selected.

“Council and our community are very pleased that the new school will be built in Astorville. We have had an excellent partnership with the school board and the school over the years and the new school will be an excellent addition to our community and complex in Astorville”.

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held  on September fourth on the new school site.
