Threat of rain cancels downtown event

A sidewalk art competition set for today has been cancelled.

The event called, “Ride the Road or Walk your Wheels.” was organized after downtown merchants said people riding bicycles on sidewalks is a safety issue.

The event’s goal was to bring awareness to a city bylaw which makes it illegal for cyclists to ride their bikes on the sidewalk.

Police say cyclists have to to either ride their bikes on the right hand side of the road or walk their bikes on the sidewalk.

This Ministry of Transportation website offers instructions for safe cycling in traffic.
