Models up to 87 years old strutted their stuff yesterday at the Empire retirement residence.

All the girls are residents of The Empire and they enthusiastically showed off all the new fashions from Northern Reflections.

Three of the women have participated in previous shows.

"We always want to look good,' smiled Mary Vassbotn.

Jean Grace told BayToday she "loves trying on new clothes".

And model Betty Busch says she bought everything she modeled.

More that $700 was raised for the Canadian Cancer Society's "Wheels of Hope', in our community.

"Imagine facing the devastation of a cancer diagnosis. Now imagine having to worry about how you will get back and forth to treatment. In Ontario, 1 in 5 cancer patients have trouble getting to their life-saving treatment appointments", says the website.

"If not for these ladies helping to raise money, and our volunteer drivers, we couldn't run our program," said Volunteer Engagement Coordinator at the Canadian Cancer Society Debbie Marson.

In 2013, 70 volunteers drivers took 2,468 trips with 350 cancer patients. That's a distance of 424,914 km, or two and a half billion licorice Twizzlers laid end to end.

This was the first summer fashion show for the Empire, which also hosts spring and fall shows.

Proceeds go to different area charities.
