OPP officer charged with assault

An OPP officer has been arrested and charged after a domestic violence complaint was filed yesterday in East Algoma.

An OPP officer has been arrested and charged after a domestic violence complaint was filed yesterday in East Algoma.

The 43-year-old male Provincial Constable has been charged with numerous counts and offences:

  • Assault Cause Bodily Harm x2;
  • Assault with a Weapon x2;
  • Assault x1;
  • Uttering Threats x2; and with
  • Pointing a Firearm x 2, contrary to the Criminal Code.

The officer is a 16-year member with the OPP and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on September 2

The officer has been suspended from duty with pay in accordance with the Police Services Act.

The incident was investigated by the Professional Standards Bureau.

As with all domestic related incidents, the OPP does not release the name of the charged person to protect the privacy of victims of domestic violence.
