Thompson is running to represent the Near North District School Board - Zone 1 which includes the Municipality of West Nipissing and the City
of North Bay.

“Our Board has come to a crossroad with the ongoing challenges of declining enrollment, high costs of maintaining aging schools and new growth opportunities, said Thompson in a news release.

"The voters have the power to shape local education so that the NNDSB continues to move in a forward proactive direction….I want to be part of that pathway.”

Thompson wants to continue to work towards the following five priorities:

1. Improving student achievement and success.
2. Establishing a viable long term strategic plan for current and future students.
3. Fiscal accountability and transparency with taxpayer’s monies.
4. Working collectively with all education partners including our students, parents, Federations and the Ministry of Education.
5. Working towards One School Board.

“Contrary to civic understanding, public school trustees do speak and advocate for local education in their communities. Trustees have to ensure that all kids are getting quality learning and that there is equity in local education,” stated Thompson.
