With the long-range weather forecast calling for plenty of sunshine, Summer in the Park officials are optimistic about this weekend's events.

"I'm doing my sun dance," joked Mayor Al McDonald.

Good thing, as weather insurance was deemed too expensive to buy this year.

Festival-goers will get a taste of one of the most popular events for free.

Admission to Beach Volleyball will be free to the public this Friday.

"Our traditional opening is five o'clock and most people have to work," explained Chairman John Strang. "Because of price and time commitments some people can't make it so we thought let's open up volleyball for Friday and hope to have them back on the weekend."

The beach volleyball event runs from 9:30 a.m. to approximately 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

A festival wristband is required to access the beach volleyball grounds on Saturday and Sunday.

Festival patrons that have wristbands also get free bus transit over the course of the weekend. The festival grounds are located right next to the transit terminal.

And motorists are reminded that Memorial Drive will be open along with all the parking lots along the route.

The North Bay Heritage Train and Carousel Company would also like to remind you that it will be open all weekend from 10 a.m. till dusk, weather permitting.

Meanwhile, downtown Heritage Days continue all weekend.

Cecil's is sponsoring a hockey themed Kid’s Zone called "Sticks on the Bricks" on Saturday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the corner of Main and Wyld.

Sarge along with some of the Battalion players will get involved in a shootout competition.

And the 5th Annual Family Drive-In Movie Night featuring 'The Goonies' will take place on Sunday at Canadore’s Commerce Court Campus.  Gates will open at 7:30 p.m., and the show begins at 9 p.m. Tickets are $25 per vehicle in advance and $30 at the gate and are now available by contacting the Chamber of Commerce office.

Tickets have sold out quickly in previous years so people are advised to get their tickets before the evening of the 3rd.
