The canoeist who was thrown from his boat in fast-flowing water in the French River has been found dead.

The canoeist who was thrown from his boat in fast-flowing water in the French River has been found dead.

Members of the West Parry Sound OPP, Marine Unit and the OPP Underwater Search and Rescue Unit (USRU) searched the waters below Recollet Falls in French River Provincial Park as a result of the canoe capsizing Sunday.

Yesterday, shortly after 5:30 p.m., divers found and recovered the body of Arpad Deak, 40, of Hungary in 5.4 meters of water 75 meters west of the falls.

A post mortem examination will be conducted tonight.

Two men and a 10 year old boy were in a canoe on the river.

The men were trying to paddle the canoe in quick-moving water, when the canoe capsized throwing all three into the river.

The one adult and child who were both wearing life jackets were pulled from the water by passers-by who witnessed the accident.

Deak was not wearing a life jacket.
